Day Four, Saturday, August 21 |
My supervisor settles in for a long day's work. |
Spread a fillet (bead) of epoxy and wood flour along all joints
and lay some fiberglass tape on top of all fillets. Also placed a length of fiberglass
(boat people in the know call fiberglass 'glass but I'm not going to do that
because it annoys me) cloth on the bottom of the cockpit and painted it with a thin layer
of epoxy. It's really hard to keep the fiberglass smooth and get all the air bubbles out
because the epoxy is so sticky and the fiberglass cloth is so delicate. But at least this
is only on the inside of the boat. Tomorrow I have to fiberglass the outside and it will
be important to have it smooth - it means less sanding later. Went to the Met and played while it dried. |
Came back to install the bulkheads which didn't fit very well, so I had to saw them a little. Felt a little panicky that I messed up my boat somehow but then read that it was okay if you have to hack away at the bulkheads to make them fit correctly. Owen thinks I'm doing a good job. |
Filleted the bulkheads into the boat. This is what a fillet looks like close-up. It involves spreading epoxy the consistency of thick peanut butter into joints, then smoothing it out trying to make it neat - tedious work. |
So this is how it stands now. Tomorrow we cut off the wires and fiberglass the outside!!! |
This hopefully will be the finished product. I will paint my hull white instead of red. |
I'm really going fast now because I want my living room back! That's all for now! c |
