Day Eleven, Tuesday, August 31

Cut the forward and aft hatches and created the covers for them. These hatches will be where I store my "gear" on all those overnight kayaking trips.

This is where I am today. Splurged on mahogany rubrails (narrow pieces of wood that go along the top of the kayak - where the deck meets the hull - deflecting water, protecting the deck edges and giving the kayak a more classic look) and scarfed them together. You can see them on the floor.

The rest of my work (sanding and painting) has to be done outside.

This weekend I am going to DC to visit mom and dad, and will make a day trip to Chesapeake Light Craft in Annapolis, where I bought this kayak kit. I will buy a few more supplies and look at all their boats there to finally decide on a color - I think I've settled on one but I want to actually see one that color to make sure.
