Drove to Annapolis and visited Chesapeake Light Craft.

Looked at a number of their completed boats - all different models.

Spoke with Andrew, one of the guys who works there. Asked for advice on building and painting techniques and boat colors. He said many people building CLC boats come to their shop and take pictures. We're such dorks, us first-time boatbuilders.

Bought a number of things - a life preserver, cockpit cover, kayak skirt, and more silica powder to make glue with - I've been a bit heavy-handed with my silica.  And I bought paint! I committed to a color.

That's me in my new pfd (personal flotation device). In the picture, it looks like one of those nerdy orange ones you had to wear as a kid, but it actually is a snazzy RED nerdy one.

Monday should be interesting. Will drive home from DC to lower the kayak out my window, down one story, attach it to the top of a car and drive it to New Jersey where I can sand the boat outside. This should be fun!
